Among the examples of implementation of a geothermal heat pump system produced by Mitsubishi Materials Techno, the followings are examples of snow-melting system.
(1) Akita-shi, Akita

The facility for snow melting experiment at Akita University
We installed ground heat exchangers and heat pump in the campus of Akita University, and made the simulation model of a thermal response test. In addition, through the experiments we acquired simulation technique of snow-melting by performing a snow-melting test changing materials of a road surface for snow melting.
(2) Hirosaki-shi, Aomori

Snow-melting testing facility in "Environmental Energy Center" in our company
We installed a snow-melting system for a parking lot by Geothermal Heat Pump system in "Environmental Energy Center" of our company. We conducted the test of "Hybrid Snow Melting System using geothermal energy and general electric power" in 2005, and assessed economical efficiency. In this test, economical efficiency was improved to 20% less in LCC (Life Cycle Cost).
(3) Kitaakita-shi, Akita (old Ani-machi)

Road snow-melting system of Yokomachi-line in Ani-machi
We installed a geothermal heat pump system of snow-melting on the road of Yokomachi-line in Ani-machi. The running cost of it is about 1/6 of an electric snow-melting system, proving very high cost efficiency.
(4) Kosaka-machi, Kazuno-gun, Akita

Sidewalk snow-melting facility in “Akashiano Sato”
In this case, we conducted only designing of this system.
A running cost per snow melting area was 640 yen/m2.
