Even if CO2 is stored in the underground, it is not effective that CO2 leaks on the ground through fault etc. So, it is necessary to monitor whether there is any CO2 leakage.
We have now a project currently in progress for predicting the behavior of CO2 when or after compressing-in underground, and checking the predicted behavior of CO2 by an experiment. Therefore, we must develop a technology for monitoring the behavior of CO2 stored underground very soon.
Mitsubishi Materials Techno Corporation will develop the CO2 behavior monitoring technology by applying the technologies that we have acquired through the surveys of underground resources, e.g., remote sensing, geochemical exploration,geophysical exploration, etc.
