Natural Resources, Environment and Energy Engineering Division
Consulting services based on resource exploration technology and experience, and engineering supporting clean energy
Natural Resources, Environment and Energy Engineering Division provides total solutions from surveys, analyses and evaluations, to measures-engineering and operational management.
On the natural resouces, the combination of our experience and know-how as a resource consultant accumulated over many years and the latest technology such as remote sensing and GIS, allows Mitsubishi Materials Techno to offer efficient resource exploration and evaluation services at lower cost. Our boring technology, acquired through extensive geothermal resource development, can reach more than 2,000 meters deep under the severe environmental conditions of complex geological features, high temperature and high pressure. Currently, the technology is actively employed where a high level of excavation technique is required, such as for deep underground research wells related to the nuclear backend, and for carbon dioxide capture and sequestration.
We also promote use of the Geothermal Heat Pump system. Subsurface temperatures remain constant throughout the year within a range of 12°C to 15°C, irrespective of outside air temperature. The Geothermal Heat Pump system uses that temperature difference to deliver thermal energy as a heat source that can be used to melt snow and to heat/ cool facilities. The system is environmentally friendly and energy efficient.
On environmental engineering, in order to address social needs consistent with legal regulations, we carry out research and development in advance of specific needs, and have accumulated a substantial body of experience across the country.
In survey and analysis services, we apply our technology accumulated through mining surveys since the mid-1950s, and offer comprehensive services from data surveys and environmental assessment to countermeasures for soil and groundwater contamination.
Through our research center, we provide quantitative analysis for evaluations of research/development and quality management. And we aiso provide analysis of toxic substances regulated by law, which can adversely affect the environment.
Understanding of the source and chemical characteristics of groundwater provides important strategies for quality management of mineral water and food materials. To identify the source of groundwater, we can apply geochemical method and numerical simulation. On the nuclear engineering, we have a long involvement in a major nuclear fuel cycle project in Japan. Accounting for about 30 percent of Japan’s electric power supply, nuclear power generation is a CO2-free, clean energy. The project comprises uranium fuel production and reprocessing, and treatment/disposal of radioactive waste, and our customers have come to rely on us for advanced engineering and manufacturing technology, and thorough quality control.
