Natural Resources and Energy Engineering Division

Consulting services based on engineering supporting clean energy, and resource exploration technology and experience

The Natural Resources and Energy Engineering Division provides extensive technological services, both engineering and consulting, in the areas of natural resources and energy.

On the engineering side, we have a long involvement in a major nuclear fuel cycle project in Japan. Accounting for about 30 percent of Japan’s energy supply, nuclear power generation is a CO2-free, clean energy. The project comprises uranium fuel production and reprocessing, and treatment/disposal of radioactive waste, and our customers have come to rely on us for advanced engineering and excavation technology, and thorough quality control.
We also promote use of the Geothermal Heat Pump system. Subsurface temperatures remain constant throughout the year within a range of 12°C to 15°C, irrespective of outside air temperature. The Geothermal Heat Pump system uses that temperature difference to deliver thermal energy as a heat source that can be used to melt snow and to heat/ cool facilities. The system is environmentally friendly and energy efficient.

On the consulting side, the combination of our experience and know-how as a resource consultant accumulated over many years and the latest technology such as remote sensing and GIS, allows Mitsubishi Materials Techno to offer efficient resource exploration and evaluation services at lower cost.
Our boring technology, acquired through extensive geothermal resource development, can reach more than 2,000 meters deep under the severe environmental conditions of complex geological features, high temperature and high pressure. Currently, the technology is actively employed where a high level of excavation technique is required, such as for deep underground research wells related to the nuclear backend, and for carbon dioxide capture and sequestration.
